Home/Services/Elevator Phones/Elevator Phone Repair & Service
Elevator phone repairFound the problem. Fixed the problem.
When an elevator emergency phone fails, the building has a life-safety problem and usually an inspection problem too. TELMOVE troubleshoots the phone, the line and the wiring, repairs what can be repaired and replaces what cannot, then tests it end to end.
TELMOVE troubleshoots, repairs and connects existing elevator phone installations every month, often on referral from the elevator service company that maintains the building. Most failures fall into a short list, and the fix depends on finding which part actually failed.
Common elevator phone problems
| No dial tone | The line was disconnected, moved or retired by the carrier, or the wiring between the machine room and the car has a fault. |
|---|---|
| Dials but nobody answers | The phone is programmed with an old or wrong number, or the answering point changed and the phone was never updated. |
| No location message | The recorded location ID is missing, wrong or was lost when the phone lost power. |
| Static, hum or one-way audio | Line noise, a wiring problem, or a failing speaker or microphone in the phone. |
| Button or light not working | A failed HELP button, indicator or phone board. |
| Failed the annual test | Any of the above, found during an inspection. We help get it fixed and retested. |
How we troubleshoot
Repair or replace?
If the phone itself is sound, we repair the line, the wiring or the programming and keep the phone you have. If the phone is defective or past its life, TELMOVE replaces it with a new TECS-A+ elevator emergency phone for $49.99 per month plus tax, with no up-front cost and a full parts and labor warranty. Buildings that need visual communication for the newest code edition can pre-order TECS-V.
Stop the next failure
Most elevator phone failures are found by a passenger or an inspector. Lines on TELMOVE service are monitored in the TELMOVE portal, and we can call into and out of the elevator for remote testing and maintenance, so problems are found sooner. Call records for the previous 6 months are available on request. See elevator phone line replacement and monitoring.
Elevator contractors: send us the phone and line work and keep your mechanics on the equipment. Call (800) TEL-MOVE for subcontract and referral terms.
Repair questions
Why does my elevator phone have no dial tone?
The most common causes are a copper line that the carrier disconnected or retired, a line that was moved or cancelled by mistake, or a wiring fault between the line connection and the car. We test each piece to find which one it is.
Can you fix an elevator phone of any brand?
We troubleshoot and connect existing elevator phones of all major brands. If a phone is defective, we can replace it with a TELMOVE TECS-A+ on existing wiring.
How much does it cost to replace an elevator emergency phone?
A new TELMOVE TECS-A+ elevator phone is $49.99 per month plus tax with no up-front cost, alongside TELMOVE line service at $59.99 per line per month plus tax.
Our elevator failed inspection because of the phone. Can you help?
Yes. Tell us what the inspector found. We repair or replace the phone or line, test it with the emergency call center, and give you what you need to schedule the retest.
Do you offer emergency service?
